Pundit shares David Moyes verdict after ‘so much stick’ at West Ham United

We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…

Frank McAvennie believes David Moyes deserves a “round of applause” as manager of West Ham after their start to the new season.

The Hammers boss has come under “so much stick” in recent times, but at the moment he is getting results with the London Stadium side.

The East London club currently sit third in the Premier League table, with three wins and one draw from their first four matches.

The Hammers have 10 points to their name, leaving them level with Tottenham in second and just two behind leaders Manchester City.

Up next for the East London club is a home clash against champions Manchester City, with the Europa League group stages then getting underway.

Moyes’ side have been drawn with Olympiacos, SC Freiburg and Backa Topola in Group A of the competition after lifting the Europa Conference League trophy last time out.

Speaking to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said: “It might not be pleasing to watch, but at the moment they are up there in the top four. I know it has just started but fair play to them.

“Fair play to David too, because he has come under so much stick. I’ve said myself, David knows the basket is never full. He could win everything and then a couple of games later he could get two defeats and he’s the worst manager since football began.

“He knows it’s a results business, and at the moment he is getting results. Whether the fans want to keep him or not, he’s getting results, so a round of applause for him, that’s for sure.
