Pundit shares David Moyes sack verdict at West Ham United after recent developments
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie believes David Moyes is a “good fit” for West Ham, but has urged the manager to change his approach.
The pundit has suggested that a counter-attacking approach is not necessary given the talented players the boss has at his disposal.
McAvennie believes having the likes of Lucas Paqueta and Jarrod Bowen means the East London outfit can keep hold of the ball and build their own attacks, rather than trying to catch teams on the break.

Speaking to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said: “For me Moyes is a good fit for the club. His way of playing is counter-attacking football, and I think that’s alright if that’s the players you have.
“But we’ve got good players at West Ham, and I don’t think we need to be a counter-attacking team. I think we should be on the front foot, but that’s my opinion.
“When you’ve got players like Paqueta and Bowen, even Said Benrahma, Michail Antonio and Mohammed Kudus, when they’re on form, they can play football, and I don’t like West Ham being a counter-attacking team because I think we’re better than that. But when they started winning games you think ‘Well, you can’t say anything because they’re winning.’”

The club’s strong start to the season has, however, recently been brought to an abrupt halt, with the Hammers now without a win in their last four league games.
The miserable run began with a 2-2 draw against Newcastle United, with that match followed by three successive defeats to Aston Villa, Everton and Brentford, leaving them 11th in the Premier League table.
There was also a Europa League group stage loss to Olympiacos among those games, as well as a League Cup round of 16 victory against Arsenal.
