Pundit shares David Moyes prediction amid West Ham United behind-the-scenes ‘problem’
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie believes David Moyes will not walk away as West Ham manager despite the “problem” with new technical director Tim Steidten.
As per the official West Ham website (1 July), Steidten was appointed as the club’s new technical director, responsible for their overarching player recruitment strategy and scouting department.
But he has already been linked with a London Stadium exit due to “clashes” behind the scenes on transfer targets [90min, 25 July].

The Hammers sold club captain Declan Rice to Arsenal earlier this summer, but have yet to replace their former midfield star, with Moyes and Steidten seemingly not agreeing on which players should be brought in.
A breakthrough in this area is, however, close, with medical checks underway for Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay, and indeed his Red Devils teammate Harry Maguire, according to The Sun journalist Alan Nixon (4 August).
Despite the ongoing issue behind the scenes, former player McAvennie thinks Moyes will remain as West Ham manager due to the financial aspect.

Speaking to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said: “There’s obviously a problem between the likes of the management, the owner, Steidten and Moyes. There are players Moyes could go and get but maybe Mr Sullivan doesn’t want them.
“But I wouldn’t think it would lead to a Moyes exit, he’s not going to walk away. If he walks away, he gets nothing.
“Being honest about it, everything is about money now. Managers back in their day, their pride is hurt if the chairman goes behind their back. But they don’t do that now because if they walk out they get nothing.
“But I think Moyes is just not agreeing with Steidten. I think he has been offering decent players, but I think Moyes is wanting British players to come in.”
