Pundit shares behind the scenes info he’s heard about potential Jesse Lingard move to West Ham United

We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium

Frank McAvennie believes Jesse Lingard won’t be joining West Ham this summer, because he’s been told that there is an argument over money between the two parties.

Lingard has been confirmed to be leaving Manchester United at the end of his contract next month, and the Hammers have once again been linked with a move for the 29-year-old.

But despite a successful loan spell at the club at the start of 2020, McAvennie isn’t sure he wants to see the attacking midfielder at the London Stadium even if those problems are ironed out.

West Ham

“I don’t know if Lingard is going to come in,” he told West Ham Zone.

“Someone has told me he’s arguing over money or something.

I wouldn’t be too disappointed if we didn’t get Lingard. Because he left West Ham to go and sit in the stands. I don’t like that, it doesn’t sit right for me.

There might be some constraints that we don’t know about, and if that’s the case then.. but there’s a lot of money being asked for him.

He was enjoying his football. I would’ve fought tooth and nail to stay. I don’t get that. He was loved by fans, he was doing all his dancing on Instagram and that kind of crap, dancing in the dressing room, fair play to you. West Ham got you back in the England squad. But now….

But listen, David [Moyes] knows better than I do. I’m not going to argue with David Moyes because it’s one of them.”

West Ham

Lingard is a fan favourite at the London Stadium, and if Moyes wants him back at the club then that decision should be backed.

However there have to be some question marks over a deal after another year of barely playing, so the club must be careful not to pay over the odds to someone whose best period of their career could be behind them after so long on the sidelines.
