Pundit reacts to West Ham United and Chelsea ground share rumours

We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium

Frank McAvennie believes there is “no chance” West Ham and Chelsea will share the London Stadium after a rumour emerged recently.

Chelsea are currently looking to redevelop Stamford Bridge in a £2bn project, which could see them without a home ground for an extended period of time.

This led to The Sun (27 March) reporting the two clubs could enter a ground-share agreement for four years while the works were done, but McAvennie has told the Blues they should go and share with Leyton Orient instead as they won’t be welcome in east London.

“Not a chance,” he told West Ham Zone.No way.

“The fans don’t get on, they don’t like each other. There’s no love lost there. No. God, don’t start that.

It’s bad enough being in the stadium, never mind sharing it with them. Not a chance.

Maybe they can stadium share with [Leyton] Orient or something.”

McAvennie is bang on the money here.

There is absolutely no way that Chelsea can be allowed to come into our home stadium and treat it as their own.

Real Madrid have managed to play in the Bernabeu while they redevelop it, so Chelsea will have to do the same or find an alternative.

The fans of both clubs will absolutely hate it and it’s not right. Unless there is an absolutely mental financial benefit to doing so, in which they’re paying us huge amounts, then it’s never, ever going to be worthwhile.

Don’t even think about it Mr. Sullivan and Mr. Kretinsky.
