West Ham United told to bow down to Vladimir Coufal demands amid behind-the-scenes unrest

We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…

Frank McAvennie urges David Moyes not to unsettle his West Ham United team with Vladimir Coufal unhappy over his contract situation at the London Stadium.

The Sun reported on New Year’s Day (1 January) that Coufal is furious with West Ham United over a contract dispute and may now be ready to quit the London Stadium.

The Hammers have taken up the option to extend his deal but the fan favourite and his representatives are unhappy over the time they’ve taken to decide.

It is believed that Coufal feels he deserves better and a longer-term deal to remain at the club for the future as he believes he is integral to the Irons and is now considering his options ahead of a possible exit.

Speaking to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said: “I think they should hand him the deal he wants, I mean they’ve just given his mate a new contract, and Soucek wasn’t even playing well.

“He’s performing the last couple weeks, so it’s funny how players come to the end of their contracts and they enter contract talks and all of a sudden, they up their game.

But, Soucek’s not been playing well and then all of a sudden, bang! He scores, he’s starting to float again and then he gets a new contract so the same could happen with Coufal.

“I don’t blame him for asking for better money or a deal, I don’t know what his contract situation is, I don’t know what the money is, I can’t see him being that greedy. I don’t think he’s that kind of guy.

“I think he’ll want the bottom line with his pal Soucek, probably. The two of them are close so he’ll know what Soucek is on and I do think he’s a good player so they’ve all done alright.

“Moyes should keep the team, don’t unsettle the team. As long as he’s not asking for too much money and he’s not too greedy, I’m all for giving him the new deal.”
