Pundit predicts West Ham team selection v Kidderminster in FA Cup showdown

We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…

Frank McAvennie predicts David Moyes to leave some of his star players out of his side’s FA Cup fourth round clash with Kidderminster on Saturday.

West Ham will travel to Aggborough hoping to avoid a giant-killing after the National League North side knocked Reading out of the competition in the third round.

Moyes’ men have been in strong form this season but have seen their results go backwards a bit in recent weeks.

Despite this, McAvennie feels it would be wise to name a mixture of experienced and younger players to help benefit those youngsters but also give his key men some rest.

Speaking to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said: “I think Moyes will give the boys a rest, there’s no doubting that.

I have no fear about the team that David will put out though because he wants to go far in the cup. I respect that – go and see how far you can get.

He’ll freshen up the side and mix up some experienced players and younger players.

Sometimes managers put young teams out but they’re not really getting any experience because they’re still playing with their young teammates.

But with the experienced boys, you can get a feel for it and be good enough to beat Kidderminster. Let’s be honest, they’ll be right up for it.

They will not give a monkeys about anyone’s reputation, they won’t care and they’ll be in your face. West Ham have got to stand up to that.”

West Ham have met Kidderminster once in their history, beating the Worcestershire club 1-0 in the FA Cup in 1994 when Lee Chapman was the match-winner.

In other West Ham news, players are worried about one of their teammates quitting.
