Pundit notices West Ham United transfer ‘turnaround’ as David Moyes ‘favourites’ claim made

We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…

Frank McAvennie believes West Ham supporters now look forward to transfer windows because the club are buying players as opposed to selling them.

The Hammers brought the likes of James Ward-Prowse and Mohammed Kudus among others to the London Stadium in the summer transfer window.

And that recruitment has resulted in some players being unhappy, added McAvennie, but manager David Moyes won’t change things if results continue to be positive overall.

Speaking to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said: “There are a few players on the sidelines, players who are getting left out of the team who maybe think they should be in the team. And rightly so, but the team is doing well, they aren’t going to change it.

“Some people will want to play, some will want to stay and fight for their place. Moyes definitely doesn’t have any favourites, that’s for sure, so whoever is in keeps their place. He’s not like Gareth Southgate for example.

“The good thing about the club now is that West Ham fans are looking forward to the January transfer window, rather than not looking forward to it, because they are buying players rather than selling them now. So it’s a good turnaround.”

There were also exits in the recent window, with star midfielder Declan Rice leaving alongside striker Gianluca Scamacca, among others.

But it has largely been about recruitment in recent times in East London, much to the delight of supporters, who want to see a squad capable of competing on all fronts.

Manager Moyes may just begin to utilise his squad more often as the fixtures come thick and fast, along with the fact that his regular XI were handed a heavy 4-1 defeat by Aston Villa on Sunday (22 October).

In other West Ham news, a European giant is ready to sell a Hammers-linked ace for £17million, with a summer transfer on the cards.
