Pundit moots West Ham United fans to go ‘off their head’ if exit-linked Lucas Paqueta isn’t replaced
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie has urged West Ham to replace Lucas Paqueta with Manchester United ace Scott McTominay should the Brazilian leave this summer.
Negotiations are ongoing between the Hammers and Premier League champions Manchester City for the signing of Paqueta, according to Sky Sports News (16 August).
Paqueta was utilised in defensive midfield by his manager David Moyes for the 1-1 opening day clash against Bournemouth on Saturday (12 August).

The 25-year-old, who joined the East London club from Lyon last summer, made 42 appearances in all competitions for the Hammers last season.
West Ham have brought in James Ward-Prowse and Edson Alvarez to bolster their midfield, having had a £30million bid rejected by Manchester United for McTominay, as per The Athletic (8 August).

Speaking to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said: “If Paqueta goes, they’ve got to bring somebody like McTominay in. Because the fans would be going off their head losing Rice and Paqueta.
“You bring McTominay and Ward-Prowse in, these boys have hunger, they’ve got fire. McTominay wants to prove himself, and Ward-Prowse has got something to prove as well, that he can do it at another club having been at Southampton for so long.
“Conor Gallagher is in the Chelsea team now, so I don’t think David Moyes is going to get him.”
In other West Ham news, an international manager has shared a “disappointed” verdict about a “very good” Hammers player.
