Pundit: Manchester United ace Scott McTominay would be a ‘good fit’ for West Ham United after two goal display for Scotland v Spain

We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium

Frank McAvennie has performed a u-turn on his opinion of Scott McTominay signing for West Ham after his four goals for Scotland during the international break.

McTominay hit a brace against Cyprus and Spain as Scotland opened up their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign with two wins, and has previously attracted interest from both Newcastle and the Hammers.

There had previously been talk of a £25m move to the London Stadium, something McAvennie was against, but after watching him perform for the national team he now feels he would be a good fit for the team although he does still have some concerns.

“I don’t know. I think he’s a good fit for West Ham, but for me he doesn’t tackle enough,” he told West Ham Zone.

“He doesn’t put his foot where it could get hurt. I don’t know why, because he’s a big lad.

“I don’t know why Man United don’t play him like that. I’ve not seen him play like that. Normally he holds and you see him run around.

“After those two games, okay Cyprus, but to score two goals against one of the top teams in Europe, that’s a hell of a stat.

“I’m delighted for that. I’ve been critical of him, but credit where it’s due. Fair play to the boy.

Relegation is still a possibility at the London Stadium as the team sit in 18th place currently, but McTominay would surely be interested in a move should we stay up.

David Moyes is known to be a big fan of the player and we play a style of football that would likely get a lot out of him and his profile, but it will be a deal on hold until our status in the league is secured one way or another.
