Pundit makes David Moyes demand as West Ham United contract update emerges
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie believes the David Moyes contract development at West Ham United is “great” news for the club but is annoyed by his reserved approach when he possesses such talented individuals in his squad.
Despite much speculation around his position over the past few months, 6foot2 editor Sean Whetstone tweeted on 29 December that the Hammers boss is “100 per cent” staying on at the club beyond this summer following the 2-0 victory over Arsenal on 28 December.
The Sun reporter Jack Rosser shared on 29 December that Moyes is set to sign a new two-and-a-half-year contract with West Ham ending all the speculation surrounding his future at the London Stadium.

Speaking to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said: “I’ve not got a problem with this development, it’s great news.
“You know what I think of him, I think David is a great manager and a great guy but I feel some of his right-hand men must urge him to take the reins off because we’ve got a really good team.
“We’ve got some really good players and we’ve got players that can hold the ball up in attack and play some damn good football.
“I’ve not got a problem with the new contract but what I’ll always urge him to do is take the handbrake off sometimes, let those players go out and play, I guess that’s my kind of football.
“But Moyes has done great, well done to him, he deserves it. I mean, what he’s done with the club, where we are and where I feel we’re heading is great but I’m a purist and I love seeing West Ham United play some good football.
“And when you see them playing, you know they can do it and that’s what annoys me about Moyes and his tactics sometimes because we’ve got the players to blow teams away.”
Whatever West Ham United fans or neutrals think about Moyes and his tactics at the London Stadium, they can have no arguments about where he’s brought the club right now after a tremendous 2023.
The UEFA Conference League triumph isn’t the only thing the Scot has done brilliantly at the club but the impact made at the club, turning them from a bottom-of-the-table club to European challengers should not go unnoticed.

Moyes’ future at the London Stadium certainly brought some uncertainty regarding potential transfers both in January and next summer but now that he is staying on as manager, the club and West Ham United board can start planning ahead.
This is a superb decision from Sullivan and certainly shows the trust Moyes has always had in East London, especially amidst the crisis of results the club tasted a few weeks ago.
