Pundit loves West Ham United performance v Wolves, praises Gianluca Scamacca after goal
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie has heaped praise on the team’s performance after West Ham picked up a big 2-0 win over Wolves at the weekend.
The Hammers claimed a big three points thanks to goals from Gianluca Scamacca and Jarred Bowen, as they moved out of the bottom three and eased the pressure on David Moyes.
And after handing the Italian striker a new fancy nickname, McAvennie admitted the result wasn’t a fluke and was fully deserved and hopes they can now kick on with other must-win games coming up in quick succession.

“Huge, huge,” he told West Ham Zone. “Huge win. I’m delighted for Scamacca, they’re calling him Scamaccavennie.. it’s great!
“I’m delighted for him because he’s been putting himself about and pushing Antonio. And it’s wonderful to see him get his first league goal you know and hopefully him and Antonio will get many more between them.
“It’s great because that was a massive game for West Ham. It really was massive. There’s been a lot of pressure on Moyes, not for his job but they needed to start winning.
“But listening to it, Soucek was playing alright. Him and Rice looked like they found their partnership, Bowen scored and it looks like everything is rosy again. But with what they’ve done that’s a weight off their shoulders. That’s a massive, massive game.
“They’ve got Fulham and then a couple of other games that they’ve got to win. The pressure would have been right on David if they didn’t do it [vs Wolves]. I’m delighted, absolutely delighted.
“And it’s not a fluke because they deserved it by all accounts. I’m delighted for David and I’m delighted for the team. The players, because it’s not nice going a few games without winning. It’s not nice, especially after the season they had last season.”
