Pundit let down as ExWHUemployee says West Ham want Stoke defender Harry Souttar
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie is disappointed to hear that West Ham are reporting interested in signing Stoke City centre-back Harry Souttar in the summer.
Speaking on the West Ham Way podcast on 21 February, ExWHUemployee reported that 6ft 6 Australia international Souttar, 23, is someone who the Irons are taking an interest in.
While McAvennie hasn’t heard of Souttar, he’s not exactly happy to see West Ham being linked with the Stoke man after big-name players like Antonio Rudiger [WestHamFans.org] were previously said to be on David Moyes’ radar.

Speaking to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said: “Listen, I don’t know the boy so I don’t want to be talking out of turn. But David’s not bad at picking players.
“No disrespect to Harry Souttar but it wasn’t long ago when we were talking about how the names were changing of West Ham’s targets. Big names and then all of a sudden, it’s someone out of the left-field.
“It’s amazing how we talk about Rudiger and all of those kinds of players and then you hear Harry Souttar.

“I don’t know if it’s one for the future but I don’t think David will buy anyone that’s not going to go into his first team.”
Souttar has only played 18 times in all competitions for Championship side Stoke this season as he’s been out injured since November with a serious knee injury.
He’s going to miss the rest of the season too, so it remains to be seen whether or not Moyes will want to sign someone who’s unproven in the Premier League and also been out for months with an injury.
Either way, the Irons simply must strengthen in the summer after a dismal January transfer window, in which no new signings we made, may have cost the team a shot at a top-four finish.
In other West Ham news, David Moyes has confirmed one player will miss the Wolves clash through compassionate leave.
