Pundit left in furious rage at what he saw West Ham United do recently as ‘worst I’ve seen’ verdict shared
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie admits the West Ham United defeat to Fulham on Sunday was the “worst” performance he’d seen from the club this year.
The West Londoners thrashed lacklustre West Ham 5-0 on Sunday (10 December) to record their second five-goal victory in five days at Craven Cottage – a result which saw the Hammers miss out on a place in the top-six.
West Ham, desperately lacking energy and ideas, were subsequently blown away in the space of 18 minutes in the first half as Fulham treated their fans to another excellent home performance.

Speaking to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said: “What went wrong?! What went wrong was that I never saw one tackle from the players, I never saw anything from them.
“They never got close to Fulham. The defence was the worst I’ve seen them play as in the defenders. Zouma was all over the place. I mean, he’s normally a stalwart at the back but he was all over the place.
“Some of the goals could have been easily avoided, just get close to them so they can’t cross the ball, get close to someone!
“When you’re running out to defend the attacker, get close to them, if you miss a yard, he will cross it around you. Just the basics of defending. They were all over the place.
“Another day, Bowen would have scored two goals but he hit them straight at the keeper, he would have been better mis-kicking it.

“I didn’t see any fight from the players, no fight at all. It’s probably the worst performance I’ve seen from West Ham this year.”
Not to make any excuses on the players’ behalf, but it was clear something was not right against Fulham as players who are usually putting 100% in really did not perform as they wanted at Craven Cottage.
The Irons had been in great form, most recently defeating Tottenham 2-1, with this showing against the Cottagers very much a rare occasion.
It was the heaviest defeat for West Ham United under Moyes’ tutelage and given the Hammers are usually so sound in defence due to Moyes’ reserved approach, the scoreline certainly took everyone by surprise, not least David Sullivan.
Moyes will certainly not want another repeat, or it could be damaging for him.
In other West Ham news, the Irons could potentially bring in a new manager prior to their EFL Cup tie at Anfield.
