By West Ham Zone speaking to Frank McAvennie

We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium

Frank McAvennie wants to see Gianluca Scamacca get a run in the West Ham team, starting with Sunday’s Premier League clash with Southampton (2 April).

The Italian has struggled to make a major impact at the London Stadium since his £35m move from Sassuolo in the summer, dropping down the pecking order behind Danny Ings since his arrival in January.

But despite his recent struggles with fitness and form, McAvennie wants to see Scamacca get the nod in the team for the upcoming fixtures which would see Ings drop out of the side.

“I’d give Scamacca a run,” he told West Ham Zone. “I know people will say something, but I’d give him a run.

“Because he’s going to be there for a while. Unless we get relegated or we don’t play him and he wants to get away.

“I can see Scamacca and Paqueta. They had something going then they got injured. Paqueta sits a bit deeper and that’s where he wants to play, but Moyes wants to play him in the number ten position.

“They’ve got to sort it out.”

Scamacca notched in his last outing for the Hammers against AEK Larneca before the international break, where he barely featured for Italy against England and Malta.

Ings on the other hand has gone three games without a goal since scoring his first two goals for the club during the 4-0 win over Nottingham Forest in February.
