Pundit calls for Said Benrahma to keep place in West Ham United team after recent performances
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Said Benrahma should keep his place in the West Ham starting lineup amid his recent performances for the team, says Frank McAvennie.
The Algerian has started each of the last three games and got on the scoresheet against Bournemouth before turning in a bright performance against Manchester United too.
With Maxwel Cornet still suffering with injury and Lucas Paqueta still missing from the side too, McAvennie wants to see him continue with his run in the team despite the poor result last time out because he offers something the other options don’t.

“Yeah I like Benrahma he’s a good player,” he told West Ham Zone. “I like Cornet, I just don’t think we’ve got enough.
“I don’t think we’ve got enough players. Downes, the young boy Downes, he’s West Ham through and through. He’s come in and he’s doing his job.
“I think David has got players in the team who know what he wants. He left Benrahma out because he was losing the ball in areas that was causing the team problems. He doesn’t do that now, he’s further up the park.
“I think it will be good for Scamacca, I think he’s a talent. The problem you’ve got in the midfield is that the big Brazilian is coming into form now. I know he’s injured at the moment, but he was just starting to show everyone why he was rated so highly.
“They’ve got a good squad. But Benrahma, he sees things that as a striker is pretty good. If you make a run he’ll try and find you, so that’s all you can ask.“
The Hammers have their final group game of the Europa Conference League on Thursday night (3 November) against FCSB, before a Premier League clash with Crystal Palace on Sunday (6 November).
