Pundit blown away by Mohammed Kudus, West Ham United ace ‘not short of confidence’

We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…

Frank McAvennie has been blown away by summer signing Mohammed Kudus in his short time at West Ham so far.

As per the official West Ham website (27 August), the 23-year-old joined the club from Ajax on a five-year contract for an undisclosed fee.

The attacker has made eight appearances in all competitions for the Hammers, scoring twice, with his latest goal coming against Newcastle United earlier this month.

Speaking to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said: “What a goal it was against Newcastle. Moyes is saying he’s not ready but I’m thinking ‘Wow.’ He’s not short of confidence. The wee flicks, the wee back-heels. He can back up his confidence, I like that.

“It’s alright playing with that attitude but you’ve got to back it up, and he can. I’m looking forward to him getting a run of games and getting into the starting lineup.”

Kudus has been a superb player for the Hammers in his brief time at the London Stadium so far, with the former Ajax man also scoring in the Europa League against Backa Topola.

He was really on fire in that group stage clash on his full debut, with the attacker also forcing Nemanja Petrovic to score an own goal in that London Stadium encounter.

Thanks to his feats in the Netherlands before moving to East London in August, Kudus now has six goals in all competitions this season.

The Ghana international is currently away on international duty with his country, with a friendly against the USA up next following their 2-0 defeat to Mexico.

Kudus played the entire 90 minutes in that friendly loss, coming up against Hammers teammate and fellow summer signing Edson Alvarez.

In other West Ham news, David Moyes must seriously consider one award-winning Hammers sensation after his rapid rise.
