Pundit blasts West Ham United after what he saw at the London Stadium recently
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie believes West Ham need to turn the London Stadium into a “proper football stadium” as soon as possible.
The pundit has placed the club’s home venue in stark contrast to the stadiums of the likes of Premier League giants Arsenal and Chelsea.
McAvennie added that fellow London outfit Tottenham Hotspur also have a proper venue, unlike the London Stadium.

Speaking to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said: “I still think there are big holes in the crowd, I’d love that to get sorted. The team is getting sorted and that’s the main thing, but I’d love the stadium to get sorted one way or another, just turn it into a football stadium.
“There are big holes, and you have places where people can go out and have lunch and things like that. That should be for fans. Against Sheffield United there were tables for lunch and you think ‘Really?’
“Put seats in there for the fans. I don’t know how much money it would take to turn it into a proper football stadium, but it would be wonderful.

“You have all these other clubs with great stadiums; Arsenal, Tottenham, Chelsea. These are football stadiums. The good thing about it is these West Ham players have never known anything else other than playing at the London Stadium, so they get on with it.
“But it’s hard for the fans to create an atmosphere there. They do it, but it’s hard. To create an atmosphere you’ve got to get everyone singing, but they are just so far away.”
In other West Ham news, a talkSPORT journalist has made a “very unusual” claim after the latest Hammers contract news.
