Pundit blasts West Ham United after what happened recently as David Moyes speculation shared

We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…

Frank McAvennie believes West Ham had “every right” to get beaten in their recent Premier League match against Aston Villa.

The Hammers lost 4-1 to the Midlands club at Villa Park on Sunday (22 October), a result that saw them drop to ninth place in the table.

Douglas Luiz (two), Ollie Watkins and Leon Bailey scored for the home side, with Jarrod Bowen netting for the visitors.

McAvennie expected more from the men in claret and blue, believing that too many players were below par at Villa Park.

The Hammers followed up that league loss with a Europa League group stage defeat to Olympiacos on Thursday (26 October).

The hosts ran out 2-1 winners, with Brazilian ace Lucas Paqueta netting a late consolation goal for the travelling side.

Speaking to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said: “I really did think they were going to do better. I don’t mind getting beaten, I never have done. But it was too easy for Aston Villa.

“It’s a strange one, they didn’t play well. I just think too many players didn’t play well. You can have one or two not playing well and you still do alright, but too many players just didn’t hit the heights they have been hitting.

“I don’t know if that was because of what Aston Villa did, or whether David Moyes put them out a certain way. When that happens you’ve got every right to get beat.

“It’s just a blip, because they’ve been doing well. They’ve surprised everyone. To be fair Aston Villa are not a bad team at the moment.”

In other West Ham news, a European giant is ready to sell a Hammers-linked ace for £17million, with a summer transfer on the cards.
