West Ham have been told to opt for Armando Broja over Gianluca Scamacca in their hunt for a striker because of his Premier League experience by Frank McAvennie.

The Hammers are said to be close to a permanent deal worth around £30m for Chelsea ace Broja, while a bid worth around £40m was submitted for Italian international Scamacca too.

While signing both players hasn’t been ruled out as of now, it seems unlikely [Sky Sports] and McAvennie has told West Ham that Broja would be a “safer bet” having proven himself in England’s top flight already.

“The biggest problem is.. I don’t know the Italian boy,” he told West Ham Zone. “It doesn’t matter if we know him or not. The boy Broja can do it in the Premiership, he’s proven that. So that seems like a safer bet.

“That may be a safer bet. The other guy, Scamacca at £34m, he may be a bigger risk.

Because certain players are a wonderful talent where they are in their comfortable environment, but they go out of that environment and go somewhere else and it might not work. So it’s a gamble.

And I know David likes that, he likes to see if a player can play in Europe. If he’s done it in Italy he should be alright in England, but you weigh the two of them up.

The boy from Southampton has proven he can do it in the Premier League so it may be easier.”

Broja is in advanced talks about a move to the London Stadium, with Chelsea finally agreeing that a permanent deal is best for all parties after initially pushing for a loan deal instead.
