Pundit backs West Ham United to hire Brendan Rodgers to replace David Moyes if he gets sacked

We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium

West Ham have been told by Frank McAvennie that they must hire one of Jose Mourinho or Brendan Rodgers if they choose to sack David Moyes.

Moyes is currently clinging to his job after picking up a win over Fulham at the weekend (8 April) in a game where anything but is likely to have seen him sacked.

With several top managers available now after recent sackings, McAvennie believes that former Leicester man Rodgers is the man to take over should Moyes leave because he has everything that the Hammers are currently lacking.

“If David goes then you’re talking Mourinho or Brendan Rodgers, for me,” he told West Ham Zone.

“Brendan gets them playing football that the fans want to see. He’s a good manager, there’s no doubt he’s a good manager. He’s one of the best coaches out there and that’s what West Ham need.

“They need to be coached and told, and one thing about him is he doesn’t suffer fools. He’s a strong character.

“I fear for David. I don’t think he’ll turn it around now after that battering [v Newcastle]. You can get beat but that performance, their confidence must be shot.

I’m very frightened for West Ham now, because that was a horrible performance to watch.”

West Ham have a Europa Conference League clash against Gent in Belgium on Thursday night (13 April) before a home clash against Premier League leaders Arsenal on Sunday (16 April).
