‘Potter lines up signing at West Ham’ after Angel Gomes transfer disappointment
West Ham boss Graham Potter is bound to be fuming after missing out on Angel Gomes.
The Hammers were strongly linked with a free transfer swoop for the England international ahead of his free transfer exit from Lille.
The Irons faced stern competition for the signature of the 24-year-old and ultimately missed out thanks to Ligue 1 giants Marseille.
This appears to have caused frustration for the head coach at the London Stadium, but hasn’t stopped him from shortlisting additional options this summer.

Potter to land Gomes alternative at West Ham
It was clear throughout the latter stages of last season that the claret and blue outfit weren’t equipped to play how the manager wanted.
This could change coming into the new campaign and the Englishman could have played a key role in a change in approach moving forward.
There was hope that West Ham would beat Tottenham to Gomes’ signing, but now the midfielder is going to remain in France instead of returning to the Premier League.
Former Irons midfielder Martin Allen believes this will leave Potter frustrated, but believes he and his coaching staff will have other options lined up.
Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, Allen said: “I think that will be a big disappointment for Graham Potter.
“Gomes would have been the catalyst in the middle of the pitch in front of the back four.
“He’s great at getting on the ball and passing it through midfield and is an ideal player for the way Potter wants to play.
“Missing out on him will be a real fly in the ointment for how he wants to play.
“No doubt that with his scouting team, they will have other midfield options who can do that job lined up.“

West Ham miss out on Gomes signing
There is no doubt that the midfielder would have been an excellent addition and a coup for the Irons at their current stage.
With Tomas Soucek linked with an Everton move and Carlos Soler departing at the end of his loan, there is a need for midfield reinforcements.
Gomes could have been the perfect option in East London, especially given that he would have come in on a free transfer.

The ex-Manchester United man has opted to move to Marseille, and no matter how annoyed Potter is, he’s got to move on and assess new targets.
