Political play as London Stadium twist emerges at West Ham United
We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive West Ham United columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium...
Dan Plumley has insisted that information being released on the London Stadium and West Ham United over naming rights was a “political” play.
LLDC were said to have leaked information ahead of a meeting after the Daily Mail reported that a “mega-money” deal was on the cards with Allianz [Six Foot Two].
The finance expert admitted that it was likely a deliberate play to generate more interest and potentially up the price of any upcoming deal that is signed off.

“It’s never potentially a strange move when there is money involved,” he exclusively told West Ham Zone.
“It could be done to generate a positive vibe ahead of the meeting, it could put other sponsors on alert that a deal is on the agenda in case anyone else wants to step in with a better offer which may be behind-the-scenes of all of this.
“That’s all a bit of a political business play, of course, but there are numerous financial reasons to do that and psychological reasons as well to make that play.

“It’s probably more to generate interest and they stand to benefit from the deal as well, so when you look at it through that lens, it becomes a bit of a deliberate play.”
