Nuno Espirito Santo blow as full extent of Konstantinos Mavropanos injury emerges
Konstantinos Mavropanos is facing a spell on the sidelines, West Ham Zone can exclusively reveal.
West Ham were defeated 2-0 by Brentford on Monday evening and spent the final few minutes with 10 men, as Mavropanos was forced off with an injury issue.
The extent of that problem has now been revealed in a crushing blow for Nuno Espirito Santo.
Konstantinos Mavropanos set for West Ham absence
West Ham Zone understands that the 27-year-old has had the injury checked on Tuesday and the results are not positive for the London Stadium side.
The Greek star is facing up to a month out of action, with official confirmation expected from West Ham later in the week.
It leaves Jean-Clair Todibo and Max Kilman as the senior players at the back for Nuno, and will be a gutting blow for the Hammers boss.
What games could Mavropanos miss for West Ham?
Mavropanos is a potential Nikola Milenkovic type for Nuno, but he is not expected to be available in the near future.
- Mavropanos has made 75 appearances for the Hammers
- He has emerged as their best centre-back in recent months
- He was excellent in the 2-0 loss to Arsenal, and then came on at half-time against the Bees.
If the extent of Mavropanos’ injury is as serious as first thought, he may miss a total of three matches for the East London side.
He would be absent for the trip to Leeds on 24 October, and the home clashes with Newcastle on 2 November and Burnley on 8 November.
Then it is an international break until 22 November, so there would be a chance that he could return for the trip to Bournemouth, if all goes well in his recovery.
However, Nuno would not want him missing at all, because his side needs all the help that they can get in their attempts to survive.
Without their star defender, that task will be even harder than it already was, and the Portuguese boss will be praying that he recovers quicker than expected, but it does not look good.
