‘Not doing anything’ – Pundit shares verdict on West Ham United duo amid January transfer talk
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie doesn’t want to see anyone leave West Ham in January despite several players being out of form so far this season.
The Hammers currently sit just one point above the relegation zone after losing nine of their first 15 games this season, and fringe players such as Said Benrahma and Manuel Lanzini have been tipped to leave for more regular minutes elsewhere.
But with the entire team struggling, McAvennie admitted he doesn’t want or expect any senior players to leave during the winter window because their current form isn’t a true representation of their abilities, although he does want new arrivals.

“Do I expect anyone to leave? Not really,” he told West Ham Zone. “The two of them are good players. Lanzini isn’t getting the game time that he probably deserves.
“Benrahma has not been playing well of late, but I’m thinking, ‘who has at West Ham?‘
“I think this World Cup has been a God send to West Ham because they weren’t playing well at all. But they’ve got a break, by the time we get back the boys not at the World Cup will have had a holiday, come back refreshed and get at it again. It’s a God send to be honest with you.
“Because they were not doing anything. Declan, Benrahma, I don’t think any of them were playing well.
“I think even Bowen went off the boil. I think you could say it about everyone. This break came at the right time for West Ham.”
The Hammers return to Premier League action at The Emirates against league leaders Arsenal on Boxing Day, where they will be hoping to turn their fortunes around.
