Niclas Fullkrug uncertainty emerges as West Ham United advance new striker transfer
Frank McAvennie likes Borussia Dortmund star Niclas Fullkrug but is unsure if the striker can make it in the Premier League with West Ham.
The Hammers are advancing in a deal to sign the 31-year-old forward, according to Sky Sports, with work still to do between the two parties over transfer fee and personal terms.
It is understood that talks are progressing positively and the Irons have a growing feeling they can strike a deal for the 21-time Germany international this summer.
Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said: “He’s a big player. He’s a big lump who can bring players in. You get what you pay for with him. I like that boy. West Ham need someone to score 20+ goals every year. I don’t know if this boy can do that.
“He’s never played in the Premier League. If I’m going to pay £30million for this player, who is definitely a good player, can he do it in the Premier League? It’s a gamble.”
West Ham United to sign Niclas Fullkrug?
The last player to score over 20 goals in a single season for the Hammers was Marlon Harewood during the 2004/25 campaign in the Championship, though Jarrod Bowen did come close last term.
With Michail Antonio and Danny Ings currently the only two options for Julen Lopetegui at the London Stadium, fans are not convinced by the firepower ahead of next season.
A player with Fullkrug’s stature would certainly add a new dimension to the Hammers’ attack, with Bowen, Lucas Paqueta and Mohammed Kudus to work off in the final third.
While there have been no price tags mooted as of yet, McAvennie clearly believes Fullkrug should be worth around £30million after his cameos at Euro 2024 and sees this as a risky transfer for the Hammers.
