Niclas Fullkrug injury news shared ahead of West Ham United v Ipswich Town

West Ham striker Niclas Fullkrug is expected to require a late fitness test ahead of the Ipswich Town game on 5 October at the London Stadium, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert claims that he is dealing with Achilles tendinopathy based on what he’s heard Julen Lopetegui say.

The Spaniard revealed he was touch and go for the game against Brentford on 28 September but he did not even make the match-day squad.

Speaking exclusively with West Ham Zone, Brar, a specialist in Physical Therapy and a Sports Scientist, said:

This sounds like he’s dealing with Achilles tendinopathy based on the manager’s comments.

A late fitness tests is on the cards for him if he’s close to a return.

The best case would be mid-cord of the Achilles and worst case would be insertional near the heel which takes longer to recover from and is agitated easier.

However, it seems to be the former and I’m expecting him to be back next weekend provided he trains well.

Niclas Fullkrug is yet to start a Premier League game for West Ham

The Germany international has played three Premier League games for the Hammers and all his appearances have come off the bench.

He did, however, start the EFL Cup game against Bournemouth – which Lopetegui’s side ended up winning 1-0.

Fullkrug did not arrive at the London Stadium as a particularly popular signing so he will have to start performing sooner rather than later if he is to win over the fans.
