Mohamadou Kante in line for shock West Ham start after events at London Stadium last week

West Ham could be set to welcome Mohamadou Kante into their starting line-up against Crystal Palace this weekend.

Kante signed for West Ham from Paris FC in 2024 and is yet to make a first-team appearance since returning from a loan back to the French capital.

There was initial excitement when Kante signed a long-term deal with West Ham, but viewings of the 19-year-old have been few and far between for the London Stadium faithful.

With that being said, Graham Potter could be set to call upon the Frenchman as West Ham prepare to face Crystal Palace in the Premier League.

This comes after a difficult evening’s work against Tottenham at the London Stadium last week, something which could see Kante come in to boost the Irons’ chances.

This story includes exclusive comment from former Premier League midfielder Martin Allen.

Mohamadou Kante set to feature for West Ham vs Crystal Palace

There is no getting away from the need for change in E20 right now after a dismal start to the campaign.

Ironically, it could be Tomas Soucek’s red card against Tottenham that opens up the door for much-needed midfield alteration.

This could now allow Kante to come into the team after a stellar midweek performance against MK Dons in the EFL Trophy.

Now, former West Ham ace Allen believes that the teenager is ready to come into the Irons team in place of Soucek for the upcoming fixtures.

Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, Allen said: “I’m sure he’ll go straight into the first team now. Changes do need to be made after the Tottenham game.

West Ham don’t look good enough from set-pieces, and there aren’t enough headers of a ball in the team.

That’s where Kante could come in, and I’m sure he will instead of Soucek after his red card.

He’ll be part of the first team with the hope of getting more points on the ball.

Mohamadou Kante could replace Tomas Soucek

There was no shortage of summer exit links for the Czechia international in the summer window, but a move away could still be in the pipeline.

This could certainly be the case if Kante were to come into the side and put in a series of positive performances for the Hammers in the coming weeks.

If his performances for the academy sides are anything to go by, the Irons could have a top player on their hands, something which could spell the end for Soucek in E20.
