Harry Maguire offered to West Ham United as ‘different class’ verdict shared at Manchester United
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie believes Harry Maguire can shine at West Ham if the Manchester United centre-back heads to East London this summer.
ESPN reported on 7 June that the Hammers have been offered the chance to sign the 30-year-old, who started just eight Premier League games for Man United last season.
It remains to be seen whether Maguire would be interested in a move to West Ham or whether the Irons will be able to afford his wages.

ESPN claims Maguire already earns £200,000-a-week at Old Trafford but is set for a pay rise following Man United’s qualification for the Champions League.
McAvennie feels that the former Hull and Leicester defender could simply do with a change of scenery because he usually performs well for England.
“Maguire did well at Leicester and I don’t blame the boy for being sold for £80million. That was nothing to do with him. It’s not his fault but he’s not an £80million player,” McAvennie told West Ham Zone.
“If you look at the defenders West Ham have got, Craig Dawson was one of the best they had for a long time because there was nothing crazy about him. He just went and won the ball and that’s what Maguire can do. Win the ball and pass it on to somebody else.

“We’ve seen Maguire for England and he’s a different class to what he is at Man United. Sometimes you play better with other people and at West Ham, I think he would be decent.”
David Moyes is yet to sign a player for his first-team squad this summer but it seems that the bulk of West Ham’s business will be ramped up as soon as Declan Rice leaves for Arsenal.
In other West Ham news, Gianluca Di Marzio claims the Irons are about to make a £15million-plus bid for a new player.
