McAvennie blown away by ‘brilliant’ Fornals at West Ham this season
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie is thrilled with what he’s seen from attacking midfielder Pablo Fornals this season at West Ham.
Fornals, 25, couldn’t help the Irons from losing 1-0 at Manchester United on Saturday but on the whole this season, the Spaniard has been in top form.
Ex-Hammer McAvennie feels the competition for places may be helping Fornals but David Moyes should still look to add more players to his squad before the January transfer deadline passes in just over a week.

“Well, he’s brilliant,” McAvennie told West Ham Zone. “I’ve always spoken highly about the boy.
“Even when David Moyes came in, even when they signed Jesse Lingard, Fornals was still there or thereabouts.
“He doesn’t look out of place in any company and his running and his enthusiasm are great for the game as well.
“There are a few players competing for places in the midfield now but it’s all good, it’s superb what they’re doing.
“I’ve got nothing but praise for Moyes but I’d like him to bring a couple of players in.”

Fornals has scored five goals and supplied three assists in 31 appearances across all competitions for the Hammers this season.
He played on the left-wing at Old Trafford on Saturday with Said Benrahma failing to return from international duty with Algeria in time to be included in Moyes’ squad.
Fornals’ versatility is one of the biggest reasons as to why he’s a regular for Moyes while his work ethic, his skill and his ability to change games have also shone through in claret and blue.
In other West Ham news, Kaveh Solhekol dropped a major Hammers transfer update on Sky Sports News on Wednesday.
