Harvey Barnes transfer news leaves pundit raging amid West Ham United and Newcastle United developments
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
West Ham fans will be frustrated with the club’s failure to sign Harvey Barnes amid speculation linking the Leicester winger with a move to Newcastle, according to Frank McAvennie.
The Telegraph reported on 8 June that the Irons were leading the race to sign the 25-year-old.
However, The Guardian said on 7 July that Newcastle are now expected to sign the one-time England international at some point in the coming week for £35million.

McAvennie really wanted his former club to sign Barnes, who impressed at Leicester last season despite their relegation from the Premier League. However, he’s been left disappointed and he feels fans will feel the same way too.
Speaking to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said: “You see about people signing players but we hear about it the day before they sign [for West Ham].
“West Ham drag it out and the Harvey Barnes situation, now the boy’s going to Newcastle.
“Were they ever in the running? And supporters are thinking, ‘really?’.

“It’s the same old West Ham with all these names coming out but nobody signing.
“Fans won’t be happy with that because they’re on a high after a horrible season last year. They want to start the new season with a fresh outlook and new players and see how it goes. But at the moment, there’s nothing”
Barnes scored 13 goals in 34 Premier League appearances for Leicester last season.
In other West Ham news, an “incredible” cash boost could head to the Hammers based on this Asian transfer speculation.
