McAvennie sends message to West Ham owners after Jim White transfer update
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie has urged the West Ham owners to fund the signing of whatever players David Moyes wants.
With the transfer deadline just five days away, the Hammers are yet to sign anyone for their senior squad despite a clear need for reinforcements at the back and up front.
On Tuesday [25 January, 11:53am], Jim White said live on talkSPORT that he knows David Gold, David Sullivan and Daniel Kretinsky are working hard on buying new players before the transfer deadline on 31 January.

White also said that he’s sure the Irons will make at least one signing.
McAvennie has warned the West Ham ownership that the club is in such a good position right now that they cannot afford to overlook adding to the squad this month.
“The owners have got to be careful because they’re in a position now where they’re challenging for Europe,” McAvennie told West Ham Zone. “They’ve got to keep going because other teams around you are buying players.
“David Moyes doesn’t buy players just for the sake of it for the fans because unless they can improve the team, he won’t buy them.
“It’s a strange one because fans want signings but sometimes when you do, you’re not getting any stronger.
“But the owners have got to bring someone in and if David wants somebody, they’ve got to give him the money.”

Back-to-back defeats in the Premier League have seen the Hammers drop down to fifth place.
Losing to Leeds and Manchester United, who leapfrogged the Irons into fourth on Saturday, was a major blow but there are favourable fixtures on the horizon that could see the London club restore their bid for a Champions League spot in February.
In other West Ham news, the Irons have tabled a bid to sign this £16.8million-rated defender.
