Maxwel Cornet set for West Ham United exit as transfer update emerges ahead of August 30
Frank McAvennie believes the “writing is on the wall” for Maxwel Cornet with a last-minute exit from West Ham now on the cards.
Southampton have turned to the rarely-seen Hammers player after failing to secure West Brom ace Tom Fellows, as per the Daily Mail, and could bring him in before the transfer window closes on August 30.
The 27-year-old made just one Premier League start under David Moyes last season, struggling to make an impact since joining from Burnley in August 2022 and facing several injury blows at the club.
Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said: “The writing is on the wall. They’ve got to get him out. He’s made a few mistakes during his time, so they must get him out of the door.
“There’s a lot of dead wood at the club, and he’s not getting any game time. Hopefully, he can go elsewhere and kick on with his career.”
Maxwel Cornet to depart West Ham United before August 30?
The Ivory Coast international has certainly been a disappointing signing for the Hammers, though that is no different to the normal trend of attacking additions at the London Stadium.
He has made just 37 total appearances over two seasons and has not even been involved in Julen Lopetegui’s first few games of his tenure, suggesting that an exit is not too far away.

Cornet was already an underwhelming signing when he arrived two seasons ago, with many fans asking for him to be sold after his first season at the club, so it is a surprise to see him still there now.
It is clear that the winger has no part to play in Lopetegui’s plans moving forward, so he could be in for a tough season in the reserves if he is unable to strike a deal elsewhere before August 30.
In other West Ham news, the Hammers have been told to get Kurt Zouma “off the books” as a new medical update emerges.
