Lewis Ferguson wanted at West Ham United in new transfer plea already
Frank McAvennie has named Lewis Ferguson as someone he would like to see play for West Ham United.
The 24-year-old Scotland international midfielder plys his trade at Serie A side Bologna, where he has spent the last two seasons since joining from Aberdeen.
And McAvennie – speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone – believes he is exactly the sort of midfielder the Hammers should be targeting, despite his recent injury.
“I always wanted – it’s a pity he’s injured at the moment – Lewis Ferguson,” he said. “I wanted Lewis to play for West Ham.
“He’s over in Italy and he got injured and is unfortunately not going to make the Euros.
“But that’s my kind of player that I would want in that midfield to let the other players go and play.”
Should West Ham United consider signing Lewis Ferguson?
Ferguson has certainly demonstrated impressive qualities in Serie A with Bologna this season.
The midfielder has racked up 2,154 touches and 1,552 successful passes in the Italian top flight in 2023/24 at a passing accuracy of 88.9 per cent, acting as the hub through which his team dictate the game [FotMob].
His six goals and three assists in league competition demonstrate an ability to chip in at the sharp end of the pitch, while his tallies of 142 recoveries, 17 interceptions and 41 successful aerial duels are evidence of his quality out of possession as well as on the ball.
However, the cruciate ligament injury he suffered in April that has ruled him out of the Euros may give Julen Lopetegui and the Hammers recruitment team pause for thought – it may be that next summer is a more realistic window for the Scotsman to move in.
