Keith Hackett disagrees with Southampton complaints v West Ham United

We’re delighted to welcome former Premier League referee Keith Hackett as our exclusive West Ham United columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium...

Keith Hackett has gone against Southampton complaints in their 3-2 win against West Ham on Sunday afternoon.

The Saints were calling for a foul after a small accused trip in the build-up to Said Benrahma’s strike at the London Stadium.

Hackett was happy to back the referee, admitting it would have been “harsh” after being shown the footage.

West Ham

“I think that would have been harsh,” he exclusively told West Ham Zone.

“The referee has not given it, the opposition have got to defend it, haven’t they?

“So, in fairness, the referee is really close so I’m going with him on that one.”

West Ham

Waved away.

There is far too much complaining and whinging aloud in the Premier League, and it is something that needs to be addressed.

The officials handed this one perfectly, and the fact it wasn’t brought back by VAR either proves it was the right call in the end.

Should this have ended in a corner rather than a goal, there would not have been many, if any complaints whatsoever.

The Irons couldn’t take advantage of that goal and went onto lose anyway, so it is time to put that right later on today (28th December) against Watford.
