Keith Hackett: West Ham United set for FA charge after incident in 2-1 defeat v Arsenal

We’re delighted to welcome former Premier League referee Keith Hackett as our exclusive West Ham United columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium...

Keith Hackett has insisted that West Ham United are set for an FA charge after the 2-1 defeat against Arsenal.

The ex-FIFA official admitted that both clubs will be charged with failing to control their players at the London Stadium.

The incident in question was after an Eddie Nketiah challenge led to numerous Irons’ players reacting in a huddle around him.

“The action of the yellow card is clear,” he exclusively told West Ham Zone.

“Why do players now want to get involved? So, the first thing is, the referee is not going to pile in, the tactic is to watch and observe and then carry out any further sanctions.

“This will be the subject of an FA review, both teams will be charged with failing to control their players, so it’s a mass confrontation. Mike Dean is never one to shirk any disciplinary process and he’s using his experience here to try and get the thing to calm down, it could have escalated.

“He’s decided to take that view, and he would have put that on a special report to the FA.”

Incoming.

Many questioned at the time why Mike Dean didn’t step in and intervene, but it looks as though procedure dictates he doesn’t.

Nketiah was surrounded by numerous West Ham players, and we have to expect these kinds of things will lead to charges.

The Hammers will likely just be expected to pay a small fine and then move on from the moment and the rest of the season.

David Moyes will not be too concerned though and will want that kind of passion from his players every single week.
