Hackett View: Man United will regret David Moyes departure after West Ham success
We’re delighted to welcome former Premier League referee Keith Hackett as our exclusive West Ham columnist, each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Keith Hackett has showered praise on West Ham boss David Moyes, labelling his work in the game as “absolutely brilliant.”
Moyes has been phenomenal this season at the London Stadium, turning a team tipped for mid-table into challengers for the Champions League.
Former Premier League referee Hackett believes that Manchester United will regret his premature departure from Old Trafford, which has seen West Ham take advantage.
Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, Hackett said, “In a way, I don’t think fans get the true picture of David Moyes.
“On one occasion, we had a group of referees come across from America and David hadn’t got a job at the time, and we were at Manchester City’s training ground.
“We invited David Moyes to come and address them and he was absolutely brilliant, he gave an insight into coaching, but also the impact of refereeing decisions on coaching.
“He was very, very enlightening. It was a real eye-opener for me and I’d been involved in the game for 50 years; he’s very knowledgable and very detailed.
“I always felt that anyone following Alex Ferguson into Old Trafford was going to have a difficult task, and I reckon people there regret not giving him sufficient time – that’s to West Ham’s gain.”
Moyes has been brilliant at the London Stadium.
During his second stint at the club, the boss hasn’t exactly been backed heavily by David Gold and David Sullivan in the transfer market.
Despite this, his work in the market has been world-class, exploiting markets such as the Czech Republic with Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal arriving on the cheap.
Manchester United have swapped and changed frequently since Sir Alex Ferguson left, although the Irons are looking as secure as ever with Moyes at the helm.
