Keith Hackett defends David Moyes and West Ham over Sky Sports pundit claim

We’re delighted to welcome former Premier League referee Keith Hackett as our exclusive West Ham United columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium...

Keith Hackett has defended David Moyes after his comments on Dermot Gallagher following controversy between West Ham and Brighton last week.

The Irons and Seagulls played out a 1-1 draw at the London Stadium last Wednesday (1 December) with Neal Maupay’s late equaliser cancelling out Tomas Soucek’s opener.

But debate raged after Michail Antonio saw a goal disallowed by VAR in the second half for offside.

Ex-Premier League referee Gallagher, appearing on Sky Sports’ ‘Ref Watch’ show, backed the decision, leading David Moyes to call him out during his press conference on Friday (3 December, via Football Daily).

Hackett, a former FIFA-listed official, sides with Moyes, as he told West Ham Zone: “I’ve met Moyes on many occasions, he’s articulate, he isn’t one to jump up and down.

“I think Dermot Gallagher was way off beam here, I saw nothing wrong with the goal. I take David Moyes’ view.

“There seems to be an element that is lacking in terms of a debate between PGMOL and managers. For me, this is part of the duty of the PGMOL, to inform and educate, and sometimes agree to disagree.

“I’m with Moyes on this one, I thought Gallagher’s talking out [of] his backside. I think Dermot Gallagher has to be more independent and perhaps re-read the laws of the game.”

In other West Ham news, a Sky Sports journalist claims the Irons want to sign this ‘Powerful’ Swiss star.
