Julen Lopetegui not happy at West Ham United after Jean-Claire Todibo transfer update

Dan Bardell believes Jean-Clair Todibo would be a positive signing for West Ham but he could wait for a move to a team in European competition.

Graeme Bailey has reported (4 July) that the Hammers have offered Kurt Zouma in a swap deal for the Nice defender.

Now La Gazzetta dello Sport has suggested (7 July) that Todibo is prioritising a move to Juventus over the London Stadium this summer.

Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell has suggested that Julen Lopetegui is clearly not happy with his current squad options at the back.

Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, Bardell said: “It tells me that Julen Lopetegui isn’t happy with his centre-back options.

I think that Todibo may see himself being a step above West Ham, especially with them being out of Europe. Obviously, they are a London club so they would have pull but I think he might wait for a bigger move.

If they could do it, it would be very impressive. It would be a statement signing but could be a difficult one for them to get done.

West Ham could struggle to land Jean-Claire Todibo

It seems that Lopetegui wants to rebuild his backline ahead of his debut campaign with Max Kilman already announced.

The transfer window began with Tim Steidten in Brazil where he came close to confirming a deal to sign Fabricio Bruno from Flamengo.

That deal fell through and since then the German has moved with purpose and has now completed two signings this early in the window.

Todibo would represent a great piece of business for the Hammers given the level of teams that are interested in his signature.

West Ham United defender Kurt Zouma in action

The Nice star is a player who seems to be demanding European football which despite having it in recent years, isn’t something West Ham can offer right now.

The 24-year-old would represent a great signing but one that Steidten may struggle to get over the line this summer.
