Journalist wowed by West Ham United as Pablo Fornals and Said Benrahma Deadline-Day exits on the cards
We’re delighted to welcome Sky Sports News journalist Dan Bardell for his exclusive reaction to West Ham transfer news on Deadline Day…
West Ham fans should be encouraged by the club’s transfer business as Pablo Fornals and Said Benrahma look set to make last-gasp exits, according to Dan Bardell.
Fabrizio Romano tweeted on Thursday (1 February) that La Liga side Real Betis are now in the “final stages” of completing a move for Spanish midfielder Fornals.
The Italian journalist also tweeted on Thursday that French club Lyon will pay the Hammers a €5million (£4.3million) loan fee plus a €12million (£10.2million) buy clause in June for Algerian winger Benrahma.
Bardell believes the Irons have conducted some “really good” business in recent times that has now put them in a position to move on the duo before the transfer deadline at 11pm on Thursday.
Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, Bardell said: “Fornals and Benrahma are players that have helped the club on their journey.
“I don’t think they’ve been necessarily bad signings, they’ve offered something in their own way. I wouldn’t necessarily say they’ve been roaring successes, but I wouldn’t say they’ve been bad signings either.
“The fact that they can now sell these players, I’d be really encouraged as a West Ham fan that I think their recruitment has been really good.

“They are obviously looking in sensible markets now and picking up good players. Alvarez and Kudus, the worst thing that’s going to happen to them is that they’re going to go up in value and West Ham are going to sell them.
“If I was a West Ham fan, I would be really encouraged by where we’re at. I think in the modern day, with a team that’s in Europe all the time, a team that’s finishing regularly around the top six and I think they’re starting to make use of the fact that they’re a London team as well.
“I think they are a really attractive proposition for potential incomings.”
In other West Ham news, a profit and sustainability situation has emerged in one Premier League club’s pursuit of a Hammers player.
