Jota would walk into West Ham United team after January transfer news – Pundit
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie believes Jota would have done “brilliantly” at West Ham United amid January interest in the Al-Ittihad winger.
The former Celtic man has made just 15 appearances for the Saudi Pro League outfit since arriving at the club last summer, having been exiled from the club’s league squad since September.
Despite the poor start to his career in Saudi Arabia, McAvennie is surprised that no other clubs have been linked during the January transfer window.
“He’s a brilliant player. I think he’d do very, very well but I think there’s a problem because he’s getting all his money tax-free,” McAvennie exclusively told West Ham Zone.
“But if he went to West Ham, I would be delighted because he’s a damn good player. I’m just surprised nobody moved for him sooner.
“I think the club would do a deal if they wanted him and I don’t think he would let them down. He wouldn’t be a project, that’s for sure. Jota would walk into the team and take over for [Said] Benrahma and stop him [David Moyes] playing Lucas Paqueta on the wing.
“Jota would be the supplier. He can cross the ball, left or right, and he can score goals. I would like to see him go to West Ham but, in my heart, I don’t think it’s going to happen.”

Talks between the Irons and Al-Ittihad are now said to have collapsed, with the winger being registered into their squad for the remainder of the season. [Nawaf Al-Aqeel]
