‘It’s wrong’ – Exclusive: McAvennie shares verdict on West Ham-Robert Snodgrass saga
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie has labelled the transfer saga between West Ham United and West Brom over Robert Snodgrass as “strange.”
The Premier League are currently investigating the deal after Sam Allardyce claimed the Scotsman couldn’t play in the recent game due to an agreement when signing him.
McAvennie claimed that it was wrong for the clubs to prevent Snodgrass from playing, as he will have had a point to prove to David Moyes.
Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said, “I didn’t know.
“Apparently that was the only way they were going to sign him. It’s a strange thing because if you’re not getting in the team, then you’d want to play against them and do well.
“The club, the manager, you want to show them that they’ve made a mistake. It’s a strange one – it’s wrong.”
Based on McAvennie’s quotes, it could have been smart to stop Snodgrass from playing as he could have handed an advantage to West Brom.
The Athletic claimed that both sides could be handed points deductions in the Premier League after they potentially breached certain rules.
Moyes admitted that he would be surprised if that happened, but it proves that the Irons have taken a major risk when it wasn’t necessarily needed.
Should the worst happen, there will be major regret and all over a player who hadn’t even played 10 minutes in the Premier League for the Irons this season?
