Graham Potter backed to seal ‘Champions League-level signing’ at West Ham

Martin Allen has backed Graham Potter to utilise his Brighton links to sign Evan Ferguson at West Ham.

Potter was named as Hammers manager earlier in January and could look to make some additions to his new squad before the end of the winter window.

The ex-Seagulls manager could build on transfer links to Evan Ferguson [TBR] to bring his former striker Ferguson to the London Stadium.

Former Irons midfielder and Leicester City manager Allen believes this signing is possible under Potter and would represent a top signing in East London.

Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, Allen said: “It’s a possibility under Potter.

18 months ago he was being linked with Champions League level clubs, he was that good.

More recently he hasn’t been involved too much with the new manager at Brighton, he’s been on the bench a lot so it may be someone that they look to cash in on.

18 months ago he was on fire and looked like a top player. He would be a good, young, powerful centre-forward for West Ham.

If they were to sign him I think he would be really good.

The 49-year-old has had a largely positive start to life at the London Stadium, picking up a home win against Fulham in his first Premier League game in charge.

With that being said, his side are in desperate need of a new striker as both Niclas Fullkrug and Michail Antonio are set to be missing for the long term.

This could hand the Hammers a perfect opportunity to bring in Ferguson and make the most of Potter’s link to the Seagulls.

The Republic of Ireland international would be an excellent young option for the Irons who will only get better with age and regular minutes in East London.

In other West Ham news, active talks have kicked off for the transfer of an attacker who Potter greatly admires.
