Frank McAvennie: West Ham will have a go at Manchester City in Carabao Cup

Frank McAvennie has backed West Ham United to have a go at Manchester City in the Carabao Cup next month.

After beating Manchester United at Old Trafford last week, the reward was an even harder test against Pep Guardiola’s men in the next round.

McAvennie predicted that City will rotate their squad, but it will still be a huge test at the London Stadium.

Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said, “They will put out a different side.

“But their different side is probably a lot better, it’s going to be a good one and another test for David and the boys.

“They’ll look forward to it and they’ll have a go.”

Rotation?

After improving dramatically in the Premier League and reaching Europe, the next goal is to bring silverware to the London Stadium.

Will that motivate Moyes to bring a stronger side this time around? With Jarrod Bowen the only player from the usual XI starting at Old Trafford.

Sometimes, cup draws are all about luck and the Irons can easily say that hasn’t been the case this season with two of the hardest teams out there back-to-back.

With plenty of time to build up to that one though, there will be no panic or thought going into it until the build-up.

Knocking City out would be perfect, though, and it would mean there are two fewer top sides in the competition as the quarter-finals arrive – bring it on.
