Frank McAvennie: West Ham switch would suit Tammy Abraham
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie claims a move to West Ham in the summer would suit Chelsea centre-forward Tammy Abraham.
The 23-year-old England international has been strongly linked with a move to East London in recent weeks with Claret & Hugh reporting he’s West Ham’s top transfer target.
McAvennie believes Abraham should look at how Jesse Lingard has performed for David Moyes after reviving his career with a loan move to the London Stadium in January.
“I think he’d be a great signing for them,” McAvennie told West Ham Zone.
“It would suit him. Look at what happened to Lingard, he was sitting in the stands at Man United and then all of a sudden he came to West Ham and is a certainty for the Euros and a certainty for the starting line-up as far as I’m concerned.
“West Ham have done that for him and he’s happy again, it’s just a great club for someone like [Abraham].
“I think Abraham need a bit of loving, you can see how happy Lingard is. He wasn’t happy at Man United but he’s so happy at West Ham.
“I think the same could go for Abraham. He’s pals with Declan Rice so that would be even better. He’s got a great rapport with [Tomas] Soucek so I could just see them all having fun. It would be great to see if they can get a contract for Lingard.”
There’s no denying that signing Abraham in the summer would be a major coup for West Ham, who need to bolster their options up front ahead of next season.
Earlier this season, Alan Shearer told BBC One’s Match of the Day [via football.london] that he’s a “huge fan” of Abraham, who’s netted 12 goals in 31 appearances across all competitions for Chelsea this season despite not being in Thomas Tuchel’s first-team plans.
Abraham has played for just three minutes in Chelsea’s last eight Premier League matches due to injury and the fact he’s not on Tuchel’s radar right now.
In order to stop his career stagnating, he needs to move on at the end of the season and the London Stadium would definitely be a perfect place for him to go if we qualify for Europe.
In other West Ham news, the Irons have made contact over a deal to sign this Southampton player.
