Frank McAvennie: West Ham ‘have got enough’ to beat Aston Villa
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
West Ham United welcome Aston Villa to the London Stadium this afternoon looking to bounce back from three successive defeats in all competitions.
Losing 1-0 away at Sevilla in the Europa League on Thursday was not the midweek David Moyes was hoping for and today’s test looks set to be just as tough for the Irons.
Villa, managed by former England and Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard, have won three consecutive matches in the Premier League without conceding a goal and most recently walked over Leeds 3-0 at Elland Road.

Ex-Hammers striker Frank McAvennie believes that despite the contrasting form of the two teams, his former side have enough to beat the Villains on home turf.
“They’re (Aston Villa) going to be confident that’s for sure,” McAvennie said exclusively to West Ham Zone. “You’ve got to say though that West Ham have got enough in them to win it.
“I don’t know if they’ll get a convincing win because Villa are a good team at the moment but I would take any kind of win in all honesty.”

Moyes has some big decisions to make in his team selection with top scorer Jarrod Bowen confirmed as injured for today’s contest so somebody has to come in and fill that void on the right-wing.
Nikola Vlasic and Said Benrahma are both contenders for the role but whoever does take up the mantle has some very big shoes to fill.
In other West Ham news, Gerrard has been singing the praises of both the Irons and Moyes in his pre-match press conference.
