Frank McAvennie: West Ham don’t have enough to compete on multiple fronts
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
West Ham United return to Europa League action on Thursday as they travel to Sevilla for the first leg of their round of 16 tie.
The Irons topped their group with five wins from six matches, only losing to Dinamo Zagreb having already secured the top spot with a game to spare.
Their quest for a first continental trophy restarts now and David Moyes will be keen to see his star players step up and take the game to the six-time winners of the competition.

Ex-Hammers striker Frank McAvennie doesn’t hold out much hope for his former side, bemoaning a lack of squad depth as a key area of concern heading into a busy schedule of games.
“We saw [against Southampton in the FA Cup] that West Ham don’t have the squad to compete on multiple fronts,” McAvennie said exclusively to West Ham Zone.
“So I’m not sure if they are going to go full strength. There isn’t enough there to win the thing. Which is a shame.
“Again it comes down to January, why didn’t we get some players over the line? The money is there and we didn’t do it, I just don’t understand.”

The Irons can’t afford to get knocked out of the Europa League so soon into the knockout stages considering their wilting top-four chances in the Premier League.
Europe may be the only place they can succeed this season now and full attention has to now turn towards Thursday’s clash, even if that means at the expense of domestic games every now and then.
In other West Ham news, the club have reportedly made their decision regarding one player’s loan deal at the London Stadium.
