Frank McAvennie wants West Ham to re-sign Ryan Fredricks to new deal
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
West Ham United have three quality right-backs at their disposal and Frank McAvennie wants to see all of them remain at the club next season.
Vladimir Coufal is David Moyes’ first choice most of the time with academy graduate Ben Johnson having forced his way into the senior setup this season.
The third choice however is Ryan Fredericks but the former England Under-19 international is in the last year of his current contract at the London Stadium having joined the club from Fulham in 2018 on a free transfer [Transfer Markt].

Ex-Irons striker McAvennie questions whether he will want to stay but he does want to see the club offer him a new deal owing to their already small squad.
“They’ve got Johnson to bring in already as well as Coufal,” McAvennie said to West Ham Zone. “I actually really like Coufal but he’s just been off the boil recently.
“Fredericks is down the line now; he’s not going to get a game. I don’t know what kind of money he’s on but would you want to stay knowing you’re third choice?
“It’s good that he can play a few positions and David Moyes will be thinking about that. I don’t think he’s ever let David down when he’s played him either.

“West Ham haven’t got a big squad so unless they’ve got ideas of who they’re going to bring in, they should keep him.”
The Potters Bar-born 29-year-old has rarely featured this season with only 14 games across all competitions and only six of those coming in the Premier League.
In other West Ham news, Moyes is tempted to raid one of his former clubs to sign this highly-regarded defender on the cheap.
