Frank McAvennie urges West Ham to sign Matheus Pereira despite Monday outburst
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie has suggested that West Ham could be a beneficiary of Matheus Pereira’s outburst against West Brom on Monday.
The Irons have been linked with a move for the 25-year-old Brazilian all summer after a stellar season for the Baggies where he scored 11 goals and registered six assists in the Premier League despite their relegation.
It seems he has his heart set on leaving the West Midlands after their drop down to the Championship, as evidenced in an explosive open letter on his social media account on Monday, where he hit back at accusations that he was not committed.

Despite acknowledging that sort of attitude is unhelpful, McAvennie thinks it could work in West Ham’s favour.
“It’s never good when stuff like that goes on,” he told West Ham Zone. “Look at Harry Kane at the moment.
“That being said, he’s a good player. I’d like us to sign him. We need those outfield players in and he’s one of the better ones available.
“I just hope we can stump up the money. Maybe the price has gone down now he’s kicked off? Who knows. I’m sure the player just wants to know where he’ll be playing.“

The signs are that Pereira has hit heart set on a move to Al-Hilal with the Saudi-Arabian side prepared to offer him a big salary, but a decent wage packet and the chance to play Premier League and European football at the London Stadium would surely persuade him to change his mind.
With Jesse Lingard increasingly unlikely to return after his loan stint last season, we are crying out for a creative attacking midfielder who can score bundles in the Premier League.
Pereira would be perfect, and we should go all out for his signature with his price likely to be on the wane after his outburst.
