We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium

West Ham are still waiting to see what punishment Kurt Zouma may get for animal abuse but Frank McAvennie believes it is time to move on.

The Frenchman was sanctioned last week and Football London’s Jack Rosser reported that he may have to appear in court when his case is brought up.

He has continued to play for the Irons throughout the controversy although he was fined two weeks’ wages when the event occurred.

Ex-Hammers striker McAvennie has heard enough about the incident and, while he condemns Zouma’s actions, he wants to move on from the situation.

“There’s no question that what he’s done is wrong,” McAvennie exclusively told West Ham Zone. “How much do you punish him for that?

“Punish him and move on. You’ve then got to hope that the boy will learn. You make mistakes and then you learn from them. At some point, you’ve just got to let it go.

“The cats are OK; they’ve been taken away from him. He’s been fined, he’s been hammered, time to move on.”

Despite everything going on away from the football pitch, Zouma has been an outstanding performer in recent weeks for West Ham having helped them to the quarter-finals of the Europa League.

He is undoubtedly crucial to the defensive structure of the team but if he is prosecuted and charged, Moyes may have no choice but to leave him out of a few games where we will see how good the backups are at the London Stadium.

In other West Ham news, this Irons ace was left in tears when training after major world news broke last month.
